Accessibility & Inclusivity
Last updated: March 2026
LYFTOFF is committed to making our platform accessible and inclusive to everyone, regardless of ability or background.
1. Our Commitment
We believe that access to education and career guidance should be available to everyone. We are committed to ensuring that the LYFTOFF platform meets or exceeds accessibility standards, enabling all users to navigate, understand, and interact with our content and features.
2. Accessibility Standards
We strive to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. Our ongoing efforts include:
- Semantic HTML structure for screen reader compatibility.
- Sufficient colour contrast ratios across all UI components.
- Keyboard navigation support throughout the platform.
- Descriptive alt text for all meaningful images.
- Clear, readable typography with scalable font sizes.
- Focus indicators for interactive elements.
- Responsive design that works across all device sizes.
3. Inclusive Design Principles
Our design philosophy is guided by inclusivity:
- Language — The platform supports English and German, with bilingual content across all marketing and legal pages.
- Cultural sensitivity — Our guidance frameworks are designed with global mobility and cross-border complexity in mind, particularly for users from the African diaspora.
- Cognitive accessibility — We prioritise clarity over complexity. Every feature is designed to reduce cognitive noise, not add to it.
- Non-discrimination — LYFTOFF never prescribes identities. Our tools support pattern recognition; context, care, and lived experience remain central to decision-making.
4. Calm Engagement
Our engagement mechanics are grounded in Self-Determination Theory (SDT), designed to feel progress-confirming and calm, never pressured or game-like. We do not use leaderboards, urgency pressure, loud celebrations, or manipulative dark patterns.
5. Privacy & Autonomy
Student autonomy is inviolable. Parent and institutional access is additive, never directive. Reflection data remains private. Users maintain full control over their data and journey at all times.
6. Continuous Improvement
Accessibility is an ongoing process. We regularly review and test our platform against accessibility standards and welcome feedback from our users to identify areas for improvement.
7. Known Limitations
While we strive for full accessibility, some areas may still be in progress:
- Some interactive data visualisations (charts, progress rings) may have limited screen reader support.
- PDF exports of roadmaps and reports are being improved for accessibility compliance.
- Third-party embedded content may not fully meet our accessibility standards.
8. Feedback & Contact
If you encounter any accessibility barriers or have suggestions for improvement, please contact us. We take all feedback seriously and are committed to resolving issues promptly.
